Icicle Creek Center for the Arts put shovels to dirt yesterday as part of a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Snowy Owl Theater. Designed in a barn style and viewable from Icicle Road, the theater promises to be a key addition to the arts center and will allow for larger audiences with its 250 person capacity.

On hand for the ceremony at the “vineyard” meadow were Sleeping Lady and Icicle Fund founder Harriet Bullitt, Icicle Fund President Lisa Bergman, Icicle Creek Center for the Arts Board President Steve Baldock, Charles Strazzara with architecture firm Studio Ming Strazzara, Dave Flynn of Cornerstone General Contractors, along with many of the board members and community members that worked to see this project happen. Harriet Bullitt, long known as a champion for the arts, spoke of the importance of music in all of our lives. The new theater will provide a place for a wide range of musical performances.

Over 100 people attended the groundbreaking, which also included a Native American flute performance by Gary Stroutsos and was followed by a reception at Canyon Wren, on campus at Icicle Creek. Construction is slated to be wrapped up by February of next year.
