The first annual Bavarian Battle at Ski Hill provided lots of action for racers and viewers alike.  The event ran in heats every hour with runners navigating the course filled with obstacles including a rope climb, giant wooden spools to climb over, and the grand finale-the large slide to mud pit feature.

Participants competed not only by racing to the finish but also by dressing to impress.  Many groups chose a theme and among them, we saw the bomb squad, sparkle rainbow unicorns, retro aerobics instructors, and many takes on Bavarian including the Icicle Brewing Company team complete with runners dressed as beer steins and traditional Bavarian dress in the form of Carhart Lederhosen.

To cap off the run, bands played live music by the beer garden and the food booth served up brats and pretzels.  We’re already looking forward to next year’s event and can’t wait to see what kind of costumes people come up with in 2013!  Big thanks to Leavenworth Winter Sports Club, the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce, and the people that helped make this event a success.
